How to leverage weather data for everyday business decisions

It is no secret that the weather affects what you eat, what you buy, where you go and how you feel. This in turn can affect business.

Tridant was recently chosen to present at the TfNSW Tableau User Community session held at UTS, on 28 Feb 2017. The presentation was delivered by Senior Consultant, Ana Yin, who presented a topic on how to use Weather for Demand Forecasting.

Using Hana Sushi Hub as an example of how this historical weather data can be leveraged to enhance business performance, Ana uses sushi sales information to discover how weather affects the type of sushi rolls people gravitate towards on particular days. These findings can then effectively identify the type of sushi varieties that could be predicted as the best sellers based on a 2 weeks weather forecast.

By using a combination of Alteryx to retrieve and combine historical weather data with transactional sales data, and Tableau for rapid on the fly analysis, Ana draws findings such as a decrease in hearty sushi rolls sales on humid days and the lack of correlation between spicy and fried rolls and weather conditions.
